Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I completed my Pediatric residency here in Grand Rapids, so was excited to stay in the area for my fellowship training. As one pursuing the Pediatric track, I was impressed with the quality of pediatric mentors available here along with the breadth of training I would receive in adult Hospice and Palliative Medicine. I felt that this program hit the right balance of time in both areas to provide ample opportunity to learn Pediatric Palliative Care with an excellent team at the children's hospital while also allowing me to learn from larger patient volumes and often more intensive symptom management needs in the adult population.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love to read on a wide range of topics outside of work. I also like to take full advantage of the beautiful summertime in West Michigan, spending lots time with family and friends outdoors.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

As for my favorite things... My family is Yoruba, so you may catch me sporting some lovely Nigerian fashions or spouting random historical or political facts. I enjoy reading and watching fiction, and am always up for a trip to the theater for a play or a movie.

Traveling is also one of my passions. Plane tickets and stamps in my passport are two of my favorite things in the world. I am creatively inclined and enjoy baking, painting, and sketching.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I came to Grand Rapids because I have come to know and love the community and see the need for palliative medicine in many arenas. Even more than this, the physicians and other providers here are kind and passionate about palliative medicine. I am so excited to learn more from these amazing people and the wonderful patients they serve.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I graduated from the Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners Internal Medicine residency program in 2013. I felt that I received excellent clinical training which prepared me for practice. During residency I enjoyed living in Grand Rapids and decided to join The Spectrum Health Medical Group in Grand Rapids as an internist. I worked for several years before deciding to pursue the Hospice Palliative Medicine Fellowship program. I knew that the program in Grand Rapids was solid because I did a rotation in residency and I learned a tremendous amount. That is when my interest in hospice and palliative medicine first began.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love spending time with my wife and kids. We enjoy being outside whether playing at the park, hiking, kayaking, or cycling. One of my greatest joys is watching my sons play the sports they are interested in, especially baseball. I am an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

This year I will be piloting a Pediatric Track of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship through GRMEP. I have been following the growth of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital since it was first built, and have been very impressed by the quality and caliber of the physicians and the care provided there. I was very excited about the opportunity to help in building a new Pediatric Palliative Care program, as they are desperately needed across the country.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love to read and am always looking for a good book club to join. I also enjoy live music and all kinds of live theater and performance. I am very excited to learn more about Grand Rapids and explore the city.
